Making the Most of the Solar Eclipse and New Moon

Solar Eclipse

Is everyone excited about the Great American Solar Eclipse? I know I am and we all should be. Any eclipse is like a reset button for our spiritual selves and a solar eclipse will help turn that mixed up energy (thanks to the retrograde) into something more useful (well at least I hope it does for me). But August 21st is also a New Moon, specifically the second Leo New Moon in the season. New Moons mean new beginnings, setting new goals, and cleansing oneself (or tools) for the new cycle. With all that being said here are some ideas to make the most of your double fun day.

Gather water and charge it during the eclipse. This water can be rainwater (you lucky duck), filtered water, or tap water. I always add a dash of salt and a crystal to my water to balance it out and dispel any bad juju that might be in it. Use this water again when ritual cleansing (you can take a full on bath like I do or spritz some on you before opening your circle), during your ritual to cleanse your items you want to use in the next lunar cycle, and to keep on hand for later rituals (make sure you label it with the date and what it is).

Dance like no one is looking. Since I live by myself, I usually blast music and dance because it is just I and I alone who sees me dancing. Dancing is the best way to gather energy for your rituals and also expel any static energy that might be lingering. Why do you think witches are always running circles around a fire? Duh! Now one thing I always do is not put in electro-magnetic things in my circle of conjuring. They can be right outside, but if you need to get to them cut an opening in your boundary and head out, but don’t forget to seal it back up. Check out the “Women of Indie” playlist on Spotify because it is too awesome not to share, plus it is really nice to dance and meditate to.

Ritually cleanse. Yes that was mentioned before, but I feel like I should go into deeper detail. You want to be free of any stress, static energy, and serves as a way to ground you before you meditate (if you do that). It can be a hot bath with a bath bomb, a bath with Florida water, or even just a quick shower. I always add a bit of salt to my water or a quartz crystal. The quartz crystal acts as a filter and will capture the juju that you don’t want put into your ritual. Once you are done cleansing you can leave it in the bath while the water drains out imagining the energy draining out of the crystal and down the drain. Or you can take the crystal outside and leave it under a tree for a few days.

Make your own secret garden. Yeah you’ll probably be at work or staring at the eclipse, but put some of the energy being shone down on something useful. You are restarting the clock on your life, so why not start something new like a garden. Herbs, flowers, etc. are going to be the best thing to plant especially since they are reusable and the energy they absorb from the eclipse and the new moon is going to help you in the future. Good intentions breeds good outcomes.
